A Message from the Chair

As a member of the Gresham-Barlow Education Foundation for the past nine years, I have had the opportunity to participate in the growth of our organization as it continues to raise money for educational enhancements for students in the Gresham-Barlow School District.

The Foundation, established in 1994, will celebrate 13 years of support for GBSD in July 2007. Over the years, the Foundation has secured resources for many projects, and has provided a vehicle for many scholarships, awards, programs and memorial gifts.

The Gresham-Barlow Education Foundation continues to focus its effort on core curriculum subjects, including Reading, Math and Science. We believe that success in these academic subjects will lead to success in college, business, and life.

We are actively working with donors who support our mission and who help us "Bring Great Things to the Classroom! Our Legacy Program continues to grow, and we have established "The Larry Syron Society." This legacy program is named for the late Larry Syron, teacher at Gresham High School for 26 years and a founding member of the Gresham-Barlow Education Foundation. Larry exemplified the highest standards in education and generosity, and we are proud to continue his vision and dream.

As we reflect on 2005-06, we are proud of the accomplishments of Gresham-Barlow Education Foundation, and look forward to the continuing progress of the Foundation and the Gresham-Barlow School District.

" Our grant enabled us to purchase a broad variety of books for our book room including non-fiction books and books related to themes.   The children have more titles to read at the appropriate level and they use them to develop reading strategies and reading fluency.   We feel fortunate to have an organization like the Gresham-Barlow Education Foundation to support our efforts in developing literacy with young children.!"   Marilyn Shephard-1st grade teacher/East Orient Elementary School "
