Thank you for answering the call!
Strong reading skills are the key to success in school and life! You helped each and every student in our elementary schools by “Answering the Call” February 21-24. High school students and other volunteers teamed up with the Gresham-Barlow Education Foundation to call parents and ask for donations. Donations will be used to help provide the core reading curriculum “Literacy by Design” for every elementary student in our district. The event also provided fundraising support for high school student groups. This was the ninth year the education foundation held a phone-a-thon. This year, we received nearly $35,000 in pledges. Your donations will make a difference! You can still visit the website www.gbefkids.org to make a donation right now Thank you to this year’s phone-a-thon sponsors: Gresham Ford, Fred Meyer Gresham, Key Bank Troutdale, Tails of Abbygail, Books for Giving and the Gresham Outlook.

The Community Effect
The kick-off year of The Community Effect, has clearly been a success as it brought the community together to support three local charities. The innovative idea of a Gresham Dentist Dr. Fred Thompson and along with Bill Gildez, they organized The Community Effect, a nonprofit group sponsoring Gresham Challenge week. The Community Effect’s purpose was to support three local charities My Father’s House – a community shelter that provides necessities to needy families, Snow Cap – local program that provides food and clothing, and the Gresham Barlow Education Foundation – a program that raises funds to help local schools give our children the best possible education. With the help of everyone involved, The Community Effect was able to raise over $13,000, which will allow us to give support to numerous families in our community. Thank you for taking part in this community effort.
2010 Scramble for Students
2010 Scramble for Students was held September 14, 2010 at the Gresham Golf Course. Last year the interest, energy, commitment and generosity of the community in support of Scramble for Students overwhelmed me! More than 100 golfers came from all over the city to participate. Numerous local businesses chose to sponsor our tournament and donated prizes and gifts for our golfers. Collectively, we produced and played one of our most successful golf tournaments in our foundation’s history!
